Austin LASIK Consultation

LASIK: Laser Eye Surgery

LASIK Eye SurgeryLASIK (laser assisted in situ keratomileusis) is the most common type of laser eye surgery performed. After laser eye surgery, most of our Austin patients begin seeing with 20/20 vision. Having LASIK surgery gives patients with a long history of sight problems, freedom from having to correct vision daily with glasses and contact lenses. Common annoyances with wearing glasses and contact lenses include complications with eye allergies, playing sports, losing glasses or contact lenses, etc.

What Is LASIK Surgery?

LASIK is one type of laser eye surgery in which the eye surgeon uses a blade or laser to create a thin flap on the cornea, then an excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea and fix the errors determined from a very comprehensive LASIK consultation. The excimer laser has been recognized as the most effective tool for correcting vision since 2001. The excimer laser has the ability to cut into tissue without leaving  scars. Laser eye surgery has been effective in treating myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and other eye conditions.

Other laser eye surgery methods include PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy), LASEK (Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis), and Epi-LASIK (Epithelial Laser in Situ Keratomileusis).

What To Expect – Austin LASIK Consultation

LASIK Surgery Consultation And Exam

At Look + See Vision Care, we provide evaluations and referrals for patients interested in LASIK surgery, as well as general eyecare. Dr. Vo (Austin Optometrist) performs a complete review of your patient history as well as a full assessment of your eye health and vision. A current eye exam is important to determine if you are a candidate of LASIK surgery and if there are any other factors that may affect your results.

During the LASIK evaluation, your eyes will be examined before and after they are dilated. Eye dilation allows an eye doctor to see the back of your eye for any macular degeneration, retinal holes, or diabetes.

Dr. Vo will review your current eye health, eyeglass prescription, and get a calculated estimate of your vision.  Dr. Vo will also discuss your medical history to learn about any medications you are taking.

Other eye tests include:

  • Visual Acuity – Testing the sharpness of the retinal focus and the functioning of the retina.
  • Motility – Determined by an eye muscle balance test to reveal if you’re eyes are working in sync.
  • Corneal Topography – Mapping the cornea and checking for irregularities.
  • Wavefront Aberrometry – Tests all abnormalities of the eye, for an unique report of each eye.

A LASIK evaluation will be one of the most thorough eye exams you may ever have. Once Dr. Vo has performed the evaluation and determined whether you are a candidate for LASIK, you will be given a referral to one of the top LASIK surgery centers in Austin which Look + See Vision Care works with on a regular basis.
